What is the all-time product to use? How long do you let soak, etc...?

Normally, for a DE filter, rinsing the grids/fingers off with water is sufficient. If there is stuff that won't come off with only h2o you tin soak them in detergent. Ideally, for that, you desire to use TSP (trisodium phosphate), just that is often hard to observe. The best alternative is automatic dish washer detergent. Typically you use one loving cup of TSP/detergent in a garbage pail of water and let to soak overnight, so rinse off.

I soaked them overnight in TSP. The fingers are still brown colored. Should they come out white? Thanks
Did you use REAL trisodium phosphate or the TSP substitute that is sold in many localities today? If you used a substitute then try soaking them in automatic dishwasher powder such every bit cascade or electrosol. Utilize one loving cup per every 5 gallons of water and soak for at to the lowest degree one hour to overnight, utilize a soft brush to carefully scrub the grids if annihilation is sticking to them and and then hose them off. If they are showing calcium or metal stains after that and so soak them in a dilute muriatic acid solution for about 20-30 minutes or until the bubbling stops. Utilize i cup acid to every 5 gallons of water. Next time y'all soak you can add together the acid and dishwasher detergent or TSP at the same time and just soak one time! Yous can also apply a commercial acid based cleaner but it really doesn't work whatever ameliorate or faster and will cost you a lot more to apply!

i detest to say it simply i use acid although it is not recommend by the industry i do it anyway and they come out white and looking skilful
what i do is have a garbage tin fill information technology with h2o pour the acid in and leave the nest to soak overnite give it a good rinse in the morning and put it all dorsum together
remember exist conscientious with the acid
i do know that is not the best thing for the filter and then try not to kill me over this pratice
it will work
thanks

I used TSP that was phosphate Free. Does that make a difference? Cheers for all the assistance once more.
Aye, you lot did not use TSP (which stands for Tri Sodium Phosphate) but a unlike chemical, most likely sodium carbonate, which is not as effective a degreaser! (It's the same chemic used in pH increaser, merely washing soda AKA soda ash or sal soda!) Endeavor soaking in automatic dishwasher detergent like I suggested to a higher place. TSP CANNOT exist phosphate free! You lot used a TSP substitute! If afterwards soaking at that place is still staining or scale and then utilize the acid every bit I suggested above. Be aware that acid washing can shorten the lifespan of the grids just it it necessary at times! Merely remember to degrease before y'all acid wash or to combine them equally I suggested above.

Harpfamily, welcome to TFP!

If y'all go the acrid wash route only fill up the container enough to soak the fingers - there are metalo screws and clips that would be weakened past the acid
